WINDHOEK: Three Chinese nationals found in possession of 14 rhino horns were arrested by members of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Aviation Unit at the Hosea Kutako International Airport today.

The trio, whose identities cannot be made public as they are yet to appear before court, was also found in possession of a leopard skin.

NamPol spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi announced their arrest at a media conference held here this afternoon, saying the three were arrested this morning at around 07h40.

According to their passports, the three Chinese nationals left their home country on 09 March this year and arrived in Zambia the following day (10 March).

They then stayed in Zambia for a day after which they entered Namibia via the Wenela Border Post in the Zambezi Region on 12 March 2014. The men were arrested after their luggage was searched as they were about to board a plane to Hong Kong via the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The three men are scheduled to make their first appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court along Luderitz Street on Tuesday morning, Kanguatjivi noted.
