12-Year-Old Girl Commits Suicide

A 12-YEAR-OLD girl committed suicide by hanging herself in her mother’s room in the Mondesa residential area in Swakopmund last week, allegedly because she was ‘hated’.

Emilia Nepembe, a Grade 7 learner at Atlantic Primary School in Swakopmund, used a rope to hang herself on Tuesday between 16h00 and 21h00.

Her mother discovered her dead body when she returned home from business, and alerted the police.

“The suicide note indicates that she was tired of being hated and insulted. She did not mention who had been hating and insulting her,” said Detective Inspector of the Namibian Police Force at Walvis Bay, John Mwatongwe.

In a similar incident on the same day, a 52-year-old man also hanged himself to death with a rope in a shack he shared with a friend. Josef Silvanus committed suicide between 07h00 and 21h00 in Mondesa. His body was discovered by his roommate when he returned home from work.

No suicide note was found at the scene, and police opened an inquest docket in Silvanus’ death.

Mwatongwe further reported that three men are on the run from the police, after evading arrest during a police car chase in Walvis Bay last weekend.

After stealing electronic devices, they drove towards Walvis Bay. A member of the public alerted the police, who then tried to ambush them but the suspects refused to stop and the pursuit started.

Mwatongwe indicated that all items were recovered, and no person sustained any physical injuries during the pursuit and crash.
