2-month-old baby girl drowns in a bucket of water at Okondjatu village

OTJIWARONGO: A 12-month-old baby girl drowned in a bucket of water yesterday at Okondjatu village in the Okakarara Constituency.

The Namibian Police Force’s (NamPol) Otjozondjupa Regional Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Maureen Mbeha told Nampa today that the deceased was identified as Muhupua Kauningua.

Her close relatives have been informed of the death.

Kauningua was apparently playing with other children behind her grandmother’s house, and she is said to have fallen and drowned in a 20-litre bucket full of water, Mbeha explained.

She said the other children rushed to the baby girl’s grandmother and called on her to come to the baby’s aid. The elderly woman quickly removed the baby from the water bucket, but at that time Kauningua was already said to have been unconscious and she was rushed to the Okondjatu Clinic where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
