2017 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers tournament: Niger send Namibia packing

WINDHOEK: Namibia lost its opening game of the 2017 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier 1-0 in Niamey, Niger yesterday.

Namibia is now third in Group K.

Senegal is leading the group on goal difference after beating Burundi 3-1 also on Sunday.

Senegal and Niger are level on three points each, while Burundi and Namibia are both without a point.

Despite the loss, Brave Warriors coach Ricardo Mannetti is happy with his players’ discipline and tactical approach to the game.

Speaking to Nampa via Niamey yesterday, Mannetti said he was pleased with the players performance and hopeful they will do better in the return leg.

The team will return to Namibia on Tuesday to start preparing for their African Nations Championship (CHAN) game against Zambia at home on 21 June before facing Senegal in July in the Afcon qualifiers.
