28 people survive accident on Otjiwarongo-Kalkfeld road

OTJIWARONGO: Twenty-eight people survived a near-fatal road accident on the Otjiwarongo-Kalkfeld road in the Otjozondjupa Region yesterday afternoon.

These people were passengers in an Iveco bus which was travelling from Ondangwa in the Oshana Region to Walvis Bay in the Erongo Region.

The spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha told Nampa yesterday at the scene of the accident that it occurred shortly after 16h20.

The police officer said the head lamps of the Iveco which was overtaking the truck, were off in heavy rainfall, and as a result both drivers only noticed each other at close range.

The mini-bus coming from Otjiwarongo had to leave the road to avoid a head-on collision, ploughed through grass and stones, rolled once and landed on its roof with all occupants still inside at approximately 250 metres from the road.
