A 31-year-old NDF officer dies in a motor vehicle accident

OTJIWARONGO: A 31-year-old Namibian Defence Force (NDF) officer died instantly in a motor vehicle accident this morning near Otjiwarongo.

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Otjozondjupa Regional Crime Investigations Co-ordinator, Deputy Commissioner Moses Khairabeb identified the deceased as Silas Mweshipopya.

He told Nampa in an interview today the deceased’s vehicle collided head-on with an Isuzu pickup at about 04H30 today, some 7 kilometres from Otjiwarongo on the road from Okahandja.

Mweshipopya was stationed at the Okahandja Military Base. His close relatives were informed of his death.

He was alone in a Volkswagen Jetta at the time of the accident, and four occupants in the Isuzu including the driver sustained light to serious injuries.

They were all taken to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital for medical treatment.

Police investigations continue.
