The City of Windhoek launched the arts and cultural festival in 2001 to celebrate the city’s rich cultural diversity. “The City of Windhoek has spent the past year working with stakeholders in the city’s vibrant arts and cultural community to revamp the festival into a world class event. The theme for the festival opening event is one of hope and celebration that acknowledges how far we have come as a nation and a city against the backdrop of international and local music and culture changes,” she says.

The festival aims to bring together all Namibians by celebrating their common heritage, cultural diversity and to symbolise the City’s unity of purpose by reaching all types of people who live in it.

The festival further strives to emphasise the important role of arts and creativity as a means of expression, understanding and the enhancement of the quality of life of the residents of Windhoek.
