African Squash Star to Play in Windhoek

The Namibian Squash Association will host a gala dinner and an exhibition match at the Wanderers Sports Club on Saturday evening as a promotional event for the 2014 World Junior Squash Championships which takes place in Windhoek, Namibia from 10 to 21 August.

The exhibition match will be between Namibia’s top senior men’s player Marco Becker and leading African professional player Alister Walker.

Walker is one of the top African players in the world with a world ranking of 22, while on the continent he is ranked behind eight Egyptian players and a South African. His highest world ranking was 12th in 2009 while he has also won several titles on the world tour.

Walker visited Namibia for the first time last year when he represented Botswana at the All Africa Senior Squash Championships where he won the men’s individual title.

During the championships Walker and Becker also met, with Walker comfortably winning the encounter 3-0 (11-3, 11-2, 11-6).

The match starts at 18h00 at the Wanderers Squash Courts and will be followed by a gala dinner at 20h00.

The aim of the events will be to promote the World Junior Squash Championships which will draw participants from all over the world, with an estimated 37 countries due to compete.
