African Stars Go Second

African Stars moved up to second position on the log after beating Ramblers 2-0 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Wednesday night.

Second half goals by Ferdinand Karongee and an own goal by Oliver Risser gave them the victory which puts them three points behind log leaders Black Africas.

Stars had most of the possession but could not break through Ramblers’ defence in the first half, with Oliver Risser and Clemence Uwiteb in fine form.

Edwin Korukuve put in some g attacks down the flanks but little came of this and Stars’ best chance came towards the end of the half when Dennis Tjetinda shot narrowly wide from a corner.

Stars continued their onslaught in the second half and after early chances by Korukuve and Bradley Wermann, Ferdinand Karongee opened the scoring when he slammed home a clearance from a corner on 51m.

Their second goal came in controversial circumstances on 75m through an own goal by Oliver Risser when the ball deflected off him into the net. Boma Nailonga managed to clear it off the line but the linesman indicated that it had gone over the line and despite Ramblers’ protestations, the goal stood.

Ramblers striker Ivan Bloom scored in the final stages of the match but the goal was disallowed for offside and Stars held on for a 2-0 win.

The victory puts Stars second on the log on 36 points, behind log leaders Black Africa who are on 39.
