Agribank Creating Jobs and Wealth in Agriculture Sector

The Agricultural Bank of Namibia (Agribank) has facilitated the creation of 38 943 permanent jobs in the agriculture sector through the provision of financial support to farmers since its establishment in 2003.

Agribank chief executive officer (CEO), Leonard Iipumbu said this during the bank’s stakeholders’ information sharing meeting held at Eenhana last week.

Apart from the permanent jobs, Iipumbu said 77 886 temporary jobs have also been created in the sector to date.

According to him, a total of 8 143 communal farmers have thus far benefited from the bank’s financial support, amounting to N$400 million.

This is in addition to the more than N$1,4 billion in loans aanced to 3 391 commercial farmers during the same period.

Iipumbu pointed out that Agribank wants to see more farmers graduating from subsistence farming to commercial farming.
