Agriculture Minister appoints NAB Board

WINDHOEK: The Minister of Agriculture, Water and Forestry, John Mutorwa announced the appointment of 13 new Namibia Agronomic Board (NAB) Board members here on Monday.

The Board members will serve a three-year term ending in 2017. Kobus van Graan has been reappointed as the Board’s chairperson, while Sirka Iileka was reappointed as vice-chairperson.

Also forming part of the Board are Nalusha Handunge, Tarcisius Shindungu, Andre Compion, Loide Homateni, Edward Mataba, Elizabeth Hilger, Karel Likuwa, Veripi Kandenge, Ian Collard, Mary Shikukutu and Kaarina Amutenya.

Mutorwa noted that the Board will be responsible for promoting the agronomic industry and to facilitate the production, processing, storage and marketing of controlled products in Namibia.

He indicated that both the Boards and management of parastatals must amongst others be conversant with the Namibian Constitution, major policy documents such as the fourth National Development Plan (NDP4), and relevant treaties, protocols and appropriate laws.

“NAB members must know the A to Z of the Agronomic Industry Act of 1992, the State-owned Enterprises Governance Act of 2006 and some other applicable laws that are administered by the Ministries of Finance and Trade and Industry,” Mutorwa noted.

The Board is also expected to steer the activities of the NAB in the right direction, to enhance and successfully realise its socio-political-economic developmental agenda, he added.
