Air Namibia MD suspended

WINDHOEK: Air Namibia’s Managing Director (MD) Theopoltina Namases has been suspended with immediate effect.

The parastatal also suspended its General Manager for Airport Services, Noks Katjiuongua.

These suspensions are effective as from 16 June this year.

In a statement issued to Nampa on Tuesday, Air Namibia’s Head of Corporate Communications Paul Nakawa said the reasons for both their suspensions have already been explained to them.

“The Air Namibia Board of Directors has resolved to, with immediate effect, suspend the Managing Director, Ms Theopoltina M. Namases, effective as of 16 June 2014,” the statement said.

Nakawa noted that Namases’ suspension will allow the airline to conclude and finalise ongoing investigations, but “it does not in any way suggest that she has been found guilty of anything”.

He did not specify what the airline is investigating, but noted that once the investigations had been finalised, the airline will have two options.

This is either to proceed with disciplinary action if it feels it has a case, or to lift the suspension, and allow her to resume her duties.

“We wish to assure the flying public that their absence from duty will not in any way affect the operations of the airline, and the Board has already in the interim appointed the Chief Operations’ Officer, Rene Gsponer to act as Managing Director until this process is finalised,” Nakawa added.
