All Set for the Namibian Newspaper Cup Youth Tournament

THE Tsumeb-based organising committee for ‘The Namibian Newspaper Cup’ youth tournament says all preparations on the ground have been completed and the copper town of Tsumeb is ready to host the annual soccer event.

The spokesperson of the Newspaper Cup’s local organising committee, Julius Gaeseb told Nampa in an interview that all the football matches in the tournament will be played at the Oscar Norich Sports Stadium in Tsumeb.

Gaeseb said the stadium has been renovated, specifically for the hosting of the spectacular youth soccer tournament from 18 to 21 April 2014 (Easter weekend).

“The pitch is in a good state, the toilets and changing rooms have all been renovated and the bulbs of the flood lights have been replaced and they are all in good working order,” Gaeseb said.

Gaeseb said it is the first time that Tsumeb is hosting the annual tournament, adding that Oshikoto Regional Governor Penda ya Ndakolo has become the patron of this year’s tournament.

Thirteen regional football clubs are expected to participate in the tournament this year, because the Kavango West Regional youth team will only join the fray in 2015.

Regional soccer players and officials will be accommodated at the Oshikoto Senior Secondary School hostel and also at the Tsumeb Senior Secondary School hostel.
