All Systems Go for Dr Sam Nujoma Half Marathon

More than 400 athletes are expected to enter the prestigious competition with lucrative prize money to the value of N$150 000 to be won.

Athletes as far as Katima Mulilo and Karasburg have already entered the competition in their hopes to walk away with the N$10 000 for the first place winner in the 21.095km event.

An additional N$10 000 will also be availed to the overall Namibian half marathon champion in both the male and female categories. This therefore makes the potential winning purse of the Namibian malefemale champion and Dr Sam Nujoma Half Marathon malefemale champion to N$20,000!

“We are all systems go.” said Alna Similo, president of Athletics Namibia. “Our organizing committee has worked around the clock to ensure that this competition lives up to its name and to maintain the standards set in the past.” she added.

There will be an additional registration opportunity on Saturday 7 June from 14:00 to 17:00 at the Doc Jubber Hockey Fields in Olympia for all athletes and schools wishing to enter the competition. All race numbers and race tracking chips should also be collected on Saturday during the final registration as no race numbers and chips will be given out on Sunday.

The official opening and welcoming will start at 06:45 on 8t June, whilst the competition will kick start at 07:00 at the Doc Jubber Hockey Fields.

The prize giving ceremony will start at 09:30. All members of the public and sports enthusiasts are welcome to come support the event in honour of the Founding Father, Dr Sam Nujoma.
