Ambunda Set for World Title Challenge Against Quigg

Paulus “The Rock” Ambunda will once again fight for the world title when he steps into the ring on 13 September 2014.

Ambunda will challenge Scott Quigg for the WBA Super Bantamweight world title in Manchester, UK which presents him with an excellent opportunity to become a world champion again.

The fight will take place at the Phone4U Arena in Manchester which will see Quigg defend his WBA world title for the third time.

Ambunda’s promoter Nestor Tobias said he was confident that Ambunda would win the fight.

“Scott Quigg is a world class fighter and he is still unbeaten after 28 professional fights which is an incredible record, but he has never fought “The Rock” and we will ensure that he registers his first loss on his record,” he said.

“We have the utmost respect for Quigg but he has unfortunately made the wrong choice by accepting this fight and we will go there and do our best,” he added.

This will be Ambunda’s second fight in the Super Bantamweight category after he won the WBA and IBF International titles by defeating Cristian Palma from Chile on 17 May.

Tobias said they had requested the promoter for the TV rights to the fight.

“The Phone4U arena will be crowded with over 20 000 cheering fans from England and we would at best appreciate that the fight be televised live back home so that Paulus knows his people back home are watching. In this light we have requested that the promoter of the fight considers giving us the TV rights for Namibia to enable our fans here to watch the fight.”

Tim Ekandjo of MTC said it was a lifetime opportunity for Ambunda.

“Quigg is sheer class and powerful and popular but Ambunda is a class fighter in his own right and this will therefore be a showdown of a lifetime,” he said.
