Aminuis man falls from moving vehicle

GOBABIS: A wedding celebration in Aminuis ended on a sad note on Sunday after one of the guests was killed when he fell from a moving vehicle.

The 36-year-old man, who was seated on the back of the open vehicle, allegedly attempted to prevent the top cover of the bride’s wedding chest from being blown away by the wind when he lost his grip and fell off the moving vehicle.

He is suspected to have hit his head against a rock or other hard substance upon impact with the ground, causing his instant death.

The incident occurred at Okomukaru village, located some 120 kilometres (km) south of Gobabis in the Aminuis Constituency, around 10h30. The police are investigating a case of culpable homicide against the driver.

In another incident over the weekend, a Nissan 1400 pick-up overturned after the driver lost control over the vehicle due to a front tyre burst.

The accident occurred on Friday at 17h35, along the Drimiopsis-Epukiro road.

No fatalities were reported in the accident, although two of the nine passengers on board suffered serious injuries. The remaining passengers were treated for bruises and scratches.

All occupants were transferred to the Gobabis District Hospital.

The same road claimed the life of a young man a day earlier, in yet another car accident along the 40km road.

Omaheke Regional Crime Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Chris Kalimbula, confirmed booth incidences to Nampa on Monday.
