Another Gruesome Murder in Oshana

A FEW hours after the burial of Magdalena Nuunyango Amunyoko (26) from Ongwediva on Tuesday, another heinous act of murder struck the Uuvudhiya Village in Oshana Region.

Amunyoko was allegedly killed by her mother on Friday and her charred body was discovered on Saturday.

Oshana police said a man killed his 22-year-old girlfriend at the village by stabbing her in the chest with a knife.

Police Liaison Officer Sergeant Thomas Aiyambo told The Namibian that they received a report of the incident yesterday morning and the investigation team was still in the field by late yesterday evening.

Villagers from Uuvudhiya, including some relatives of the murdered woman, Tulipomwene Magano Emili, said she was a bar lady in one of the cuca shops at Uuvudhiya.

Uuvudhiya Constituency councillor Amutenya Ndaafa said the suspect – an Angolan – ran away after the incident, while Aiyambo said police are looking for him.

Although Aiyambo could not confirm the reports, villagers yesterday told The Namibian that two men fought over the late Emili.

They also said one of them was allegedly taken in for questioning.

“Why are these killings continuing despite the prayers we had? When will Namibian men to stop killing women? What must we do again to stop these evil?” a villager asked.

Police said more details would be provided today.
