Baby boy allegedly killed by uncle at Onyaanya

OTJIWARONGO; A one-year-old baby boy was allegedly smashed to the ground by his uncle at the Anadhi village in the Onyaanya Constituency in the Oshikoto Region on Friday afternoon.

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Oshikoto Regional Crime Investigations Co-ordinator, Deputy Commissioner Naomi Katjiua said the man allegedly picked up the baby and hit him on the ground with force at about 13h30 on Friday.

She told Nampa on Sunday that there was apparently no provocation whatsoever between the 25-year-old suspect and the parents of the boy or the boy himself.

The baby sustained serious facial injuries and was admitted to the Onyaanya Health Centre.

He was later transferred to the Onandjokwe Lutheran Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries shortly before 18h00 on Friday, said Katjiua.

The accused man fled the scene immediately and has not been arrested yet.

A case of murder was opened against him at the Okatope Police Station that same day.

Police investigations continue.
