Ball kills boy at Ongwediva

ONGWEDIVA; A seven-year-old boy died on the spot after he was hit by a ball on Friday.

The incident happened in the Omashekediva village of the Oshana Region’s Ongwediva Constituency.

The boy, Petrus Nghishikushitya Salom Malangu, was a Grade 2 learner at the Omashekediva Primary School (PS).

Confirming this mysterious death to Nampa on Wednesday, the boy’s uncle, David Hamundaba, said the incident took place at the sports field of the said school after school hours.

He said a 16-year-old boy was taking a penalty kick in a football match, but missed the net and the ball hit Malangu, who was standing beside the goalposts, on the back of his head.

“He (Malangu) started crying, saying he was in serious pain and lied down on the ground,” Hamundaba explained.

The boy died before he could be taken to the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital. He was declared dead upon arrival at that hospital.

Malangu was buried at his home village of Omashekediva on Wednesday this week.
