Berseba Council CEO Fights for His Contract

Berseba Village Council Chief Executive Officer, Thomas Dreyer, is fighting to have his employment back after his contract was instantly terminated by the council in November last year.

In a letter addressed to Sarah Isaack, the Chairperson of the Village Council, by Dreyer’s lawyers, Metcalfe Attorneys, the law firm indicates that Isaack was the “lone wolf” when she took the decision, and not with a mandate from the Village Council.

She allegedly also failed to aertise the position as is required by law. This despite a letter addressed to Dreyer seen by New Era dated July 18, 2014, titled “noticed of expiry of employment”. The letter states that “during an ordinary meeting held on July 15, 2014, the council resolved not to renew your contract”.

The letter further states that Dreyer queried the matter but Isaack did not debate or resolve the matter.

Dreyer, through his attorneys, is asking to be reinstated and for his contract not to be terminated prior to December 31, 2019.

Dreyer was served with a letter on July 18 last year that his contract will be terminated, and his contract was terminated on November 30 last year.

Isaack could not be reached for comment.
