Bidvest Namibia cup launched

WINDHOEK: The third annual Bidvest Namibia Cup has been officially launched here on Tuesday.

Speaking during the launch, Bidvest Namibia’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sebby Kankondi, said his company have thus far invested more than N.dollar 20 million in the competition over the past three years.

“This investment was conscious and deliberate decision that was based on the knowing that we are investing in youth development and that is the right thing to do,” he said.

Kankondi stated that they hope that the excitement brought forth by the cup has motivated the Namibian youth to work harder on the sports field.

The first matches of the cup will be played on 31 January 2015, in Windhoek, Rundu and Tsumeb.

This year’s investment is the last one from Bidvest.

Kankondi said this is their last year investment into soccer, as they will be realigning its social investment drive towards other community upliftment projects.

“The past two tournaments have been exciting events and has afforded us the opportunity to create new connections, while warming the hearts of our aspiring and existing soccer talent,” he said.

He added that Bidvest Namibia aim to instil values of adhering to rules within the youth and also other values that come with sport participation.

He further stated that sportsmanship is important in the business world, and that Bidvest respect and care for communities in which they do their business.

This year’s man of the match from the Round of 16 will walk away with N.dollars 2000, while N.dollars 5000 has been reserved for the Man of the Match winner during the final match of the competition, to be voted by the media.

The top goal scorer of the of the tournament will take home a package of N.dollars 25 000, while soccer fans can win a ticket to watch any of their English Premier League teams play against that league’s soccer outfit, Sunderland Football Club.

The fans will enter the competition by entering their match tickets, writing their names and contact details on them.

All expenses are covered for the trip, and they will attend training sessions of Sunderland that is sponsored by Bidvest, as well as meeting the players.
