Biest Awards Best Players

Two Citizens’ Football Club (FC) players were on Monday rewarded for their good performances during the recently-concluded Biest Namibia Cup, scooping the best player and top-scorer awards.

Lesley So-Oabeb was the top goal scorer with six goals overall, and Tjiwana Tja Tjinotjiua received the accolade of Player of the Tournament.

They each received N$25 000 and a trophy.

These awards were handed over by main sponsor Biest Namibia at Football House in Katutura.

The Biest Namibia Cup is a competition organised by the Namibia Football Association (NFA), in collaboration with their sponsor Biest Namibia. All registered clubs in the different leagues in the country participate in the competition.

Windhoek-based Citizens proved their worth by making it to the very end of the second edition of the prestigious competition, losing in the final against African Stars FC on 7 June this year.

Citizens were also recently promoted to the Namibia Premier League 201415 season by virtue of winning the Southern Stream First Division League.

Tjinotjiua told Nampa after the awards’ ceremony that he was shocked to be selected as the best player of the tournament.

“There are big players playing at big teams like Edwin Korukuve and Ninja Karongee of African Stars whom I thought would be nominated, but winning this award encourages me to work very hard next season because I would like to be in the national team set-up one day,” he noted.

So-Oabeb also beamed with pride, saying the money will come in handy for him and his family.

He expressed the desire to play football full-time, and not part-time as is presently the case.
