Black Africa Blitz Pirates

Black Africa took a major step towards retaining the NPL title when they beat Orlando Pirates 2-0 in a cracking Katutura derby at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Friday night.

Goals by Muna Katupose just before halftime and Ananias Gebhardt on 75m gave BA the win which puts them six points clear of African Stars at the top of the log, while Pirates remain third, eight points off the pace.

In a hard and physical match that saw numerous fouls and yellow cards on both sides, Pirates came out attacking first with Terdius Uiseb putting in a dangerous cross that just eluded Gustav Isaak.

At the other end, BA striker Muna Katupose had a free kick cleared and then passed to Marco van Wyk in the box but his shot was well saved by Chales Uirab.

Isaak won a corner for Pirates after a g run, while Pirates put a lot of pressure on BA’s defence but they managed to stand firm.

The match was played at a hectic pace with end to end action, and it was BA who took the lead on 42m when Muna Katupose broke clear through the midfield to steer the ball into the left hand corner of the net.

The fast, physical match continued in the second half with both sides putting in attacks and counterattacks, but there were no clearcut chances.

BA finally broke the deadlock with a great goal by Ananias Gebhardt on 75m. The impressive Willy Stephanus had a shot parried away by Charles Uirab, but Gebhardt followed up to slam the rebound high into the net.

A minute later Pirates’ woes deepened when defender Ivan Makina received a red card after a clash with Stephanus that left the BA winger with blood streaming from his face.

Stephanus was taken off the field and replaced by Quinton Jacobs as BA held on for an important victory.
