Bowls League Intensifies

With two more match-days to go, competition in the four playing divisions of the Namibian National Bowls League is intensifying following splendid action and drama last weekend.

The women’s team of TransNamib Bowling Club (TNBC) continues to underline their championship credentials and it appears there is no stopping them.

With the TBNC’s women now having an overwhelming 15 points at the top of the log, it is hard to imagine any other outcome than them walking away with this year’s championship.

The team was on a high again last weekend, opening the match-day with a solid 20-9 win against Rossmund Bowling Club (RBC). The next day they were made to work a lot harder against Namib Park Bowling Club (NPBC), but eventually, they kept their cool to celebrate a 16-15 win, ending their weekend in style.

There is, however, a fierce race building up behind the log-leaders with all other clubs still in the running for at least the second place.

Their male compatriots had a weekend to forget as they lost both their matches to allow their rivals back in the title race.

The TNBC-men failed to increase their lead at the top as they suffered a 22-17 loss to the Rossmund Club, while they drew their second match 17-17 against Namib Park on Sunday.

With their rivals, especially Eros Bowling Club (EBC) and Namib Park Club gaining valuable points, the men’s division will most likely only be decided on the last day of the league in July.

In the mixed division, it is currently a two-horse race between TransNamib and Rossmund, with both teams on 14 points, while Eros are also still in contention with 12 points to their name.

TBNC and RBC won one game apiece last weekend, while EBC crashed to a 19-13 defeat in their only game of the day against Tsumeb Bowling Club (TBC).
