Boy commits suicide after failing Grade 9

A 15-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide by hanging on Monday morning after learning that he had failed Grade Nine.

The spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha identified the boy as Frans de Klerk.

“His next of kin are informed of his death,” she said.

He was a learner at the K.W. von Marees Combined School in Veddersdal in Okahandja.

De Klerk received his 2014 school results on Monday morning only, and found out that he did not make it to Grade 10 this year.

“He allegedly then expressed sadness to his parents about it, and they in return comforted him,” Mbeha said.

However, De Klerk left his parents shortly afterwards, and went to the bushes behind the Roads Construction Company (RCC) offices where he was found hanging from a tree with his shoelaces around his neck at about 11h49 the same day.

Police investigations into the matter continue.
