Brave Gladiators to Play Banyana Banyana

In their preparation for the 2014 CAF Africa Women Championship, the Brave Gladiators will play their counterparts from South Africa, Banyana Banyana, in an international friendly match at 15h00 on Saturday at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.

National coach Jacqui Shipanga confirmed the friendly match and expressed her appreciation for the encounter.

“We have been courting them (South Africa) for some time, and they have finally agreed to come and play against us. We play South Africa on Saturday and the fight for places in my final 23-women team is fierce. South Africa always brings the best out of our team, so I’m confident in my players’ ability. They have shown during training that the game will be well worth watching and so I’d like to call upon Namibians to come and be with us on Saturday,” she said.

The team will however be without the Germany-based players such as Loraine Jossop and Vewe Kotjipati, but Shipanga said the available players will have to take their chances.

“It is now or never for us as a country and we will go all out to make a statement and see how they respond. We have to warn Africa. The players in camp have what it takes to compete and I expect just that on Saturday,” she said. ”

South Africa arrived for the encounter on Wednesday and had their first training session at the venue, Sam Nujoma Stadium in the afternoon.
