Cabinet approves opening of 2015 hunting season

WINDHOEK; Cabinet has approved the opening of the 2015 hunting season, Minister of Information and Communication Technology Tjekero Tweya announced on Thursday.

He said from the period 01 May to 31 August 2015 hunting may take place on registered conservancies where quotas for huntable game have been approved and on commercial farms of not less than 1 000 hectares which are enclosed with game-proof fence.

In the case of commercial farms enclosed with adequate or ordinary fence, the hunting period will be 01 June to 31 July 2015.

The numbers of game species that may be hunted are three large game species; or two large game species and four small game species; or one large game species and eight small game species; or 12 small game species.

Huntable game birds which may be hunted include the Helmet Guinea Fowl, Red-billed Francolin, Orange River Francolin, Egyptian Goose and the Cape Turtle.

The prescribed limitation for the huntable game birds is 10 birds per hunter.
