Chief Riruako is a ‘Fighter’

OVAHERERO Paramount Chief Kuaima Riruako’s family yesterday said they are leaving the chief’s fate in God’s hands, as his condition remains critical.

“It is difficult to see dad in that condition, but we know he is a fighter.

After his condition deteriorated on Sunday evening he is better now, but all we can do is just pray,” his daughter Mathilda Riruako told The Namibian yesterday.

Riruako (79) was hospitalised on 26 April due to high blood pressure and has been in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Roman Catholic Hospital ever since.

Spokesperson of the family Hoze Riruako said after a brain scan was done, the doctors confirmed that there was no burst of a vein as previously reported.

“When the chief’s condition deteriorated, it was assumed that a vein had burst in his head, but we learned that this was not the case.

“He is critical but stable. Better than he was on Monday. He is responding well to medication and we are hoping and praying for the best,” Hoze Riruako said.

The chief has been under strict police guard, as only close family members are allowed to see him.

Although the family said they know Riruako will not make a full recovery anytime soon, they expressed gratitude over the fact that he was still alive.
