Chinese attack bricklayer at Oshakati

OSHAKATI: A bricklayer of a Chinese construction company, Namibia Cleaning Chemical Solutions (NCCS), says seven of his Chinese colleagues assaulted him while on duty here on Tuesday last week.

Ananias Michael told Nampa on Thursday that his Chinese colleagues called him to the office and attacked him before his Namibian colleagues called the Police.

He said the beating followed a quarrel between him and his Chinese foreman, who accused him of bad work earlier the same day.

Spokesperson of the company, Shen Wanjun denied that Michael was beaten up or pulled from top of the building.

He said Michael came to work in an angry mood or frustrated for reasons only known to him, and he is the one who caused the conflict by hitting his foreman with a trowel in the head after he was asked to do proper work.

Michael has not opened a case of assault against his Chinese colleagues, saying he could not do so due to the fact that the management of the company had paid N.dollars 6 000 towards his medication for his backache and other injuries he might have suffered.

Wajun said they paid him N.dollars 6 000 to avoid a further conflict, and that the payment also means that Michael’s service with the company has been terminated.
