Chinese delegation meets with Geingob

WINDHOEK: A Chinese delegation headed by a member of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Foreign Policy Consultative Committee, Ji Peiding on Tuesday paid a courtesy call on President Hage Geingob.

The visiting delegation comprises of government officials and business people.

Ji told members of the media he served as the first Chinese Ambassador to Namibia from 1990 to 1993.

Speaking to members of the media after a closed-door meeting with the Namibian Head of State, he said the purpose of their visit is to see how they can strengthen the existing relationship between China and Namibia.

“China is changing, Namibia is also changing and the world is changing, therefore China and Namibia, being good friends, need a regular exchange of views,” he said, adding that there are business people in his delegation who are looking at business opportunities in Namibia.

Ji pointed out that some of them are looking at going into joint ventures with Namibian electronics companies, while others want to invest in the manufacturing of medicine in Namibia.

He said they met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, and had a lengthy discussion on various issues concerning economic cooperation.
