WINDHOEK: The Chinese government has availed N.dollars 800 million for the rehabilitation and upgrade of the road between Windhoek and the Hosea Kutako International Airport.

This airport is situated some 45 kilometres east of the capital.

Chinese Ambassador to Namibia Xin Shunkang made the donation announcement during a media briefing yesterday morning, saying it is to show his government’s support towards the Namibian government and to help develop this country.

Namibian Prime Minister, Dr Hage Geingob was present during the announcement, and said once the rehabilitation of the road is complete, it will significantly help reduce the number of accidents in the country.

Earlier this year, President Hifikepunye Pohamba was quoted as saying that such investments will bring about significant reductions in traffic congestion, and also greatly improve road safety on vital transport arteries in the country.

VKE Namibia has been appointed as the Engineering Consultant and Grinaker Namibia is the contractor on the project, which will be supervised and managed by the Roads Authority of Namibia.
