Chinese Robbed of N$1 Million in Goods and Cash

TWO Chinese men were among victims of armed robberies that occurred in the past week, police said yesterday.

Police spokesperson Inspector Slogan Matheus told the media that four men broke into the home of Wang Guiwei (43) and Yang Xiaojuan (37) on Wednesday and held the two at gunpoint.

Matheus further said the suspects tied up the Chinese men before allegedly stealing goods and cash amounting to N$1million.

Among the stolen goods werecash in various currencies – N$64 000, US$28 000 (N$330 000), and 10 000 yuan (N$19 000) – and an expensive watch, Vancheron Constantine, worth N$600 000.

Mathues said the suspects also got away with two iPhones whose value could not be determined.

Two other robberies were reported in Windhoek including one that occurred in Khomasdal on Thursday where four suspects armed with knives and a pistol robbed seven people at a braai.

Matheus said the suspects, who are also still at large, robbed the people of money, sunglasses, ATM cards and personal documents. Police investigations into the matter continue,” Matheus said.

Another robbery took place in Okuryangava where three male suspects armed with a pistol entered a shack and robbed the occupant.

“When they entered the shack they fired one shot and robbed the victim of her laptop and two cellphones. They are still at large,” Matheus said.

The police said three rape cases involving that of a 15-year-old girl were reported this week.

Matheus said a 26-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a taxi driver on Saturday evening near China Town.

“The victim took a taxi near the Government Park and asked to be dropped off at her residence in Ovambo location. The taxi driver then drove to China Town and raped her two times and beat her before fleeing the scene,” Matheus said adding that the suspect is still at large.

In Omusati region, Oshikuku police said a 15-year-old girl was raped by a 28-year-old man.

“It is alleged that the victim was playing with other children and the suspect called her to get sweets. He pulled her in the nearby bushes and raped her,” Matheus said.

He said the suspect was arrested and is expected to appear at the Outapi Magistrate’s Court today.

On Friday, police said a 41-year-old woman was raped by a suspect who called her out while she was sleeping with her boyfriend at Epukiro in Omaheke region.

According to the police, the woman’s boyfriend did not intervene because he was scared of the suspect. The 33-year-old suspect was arrested and is expected to appear in court today.
