Construction of Damara Seven Club Stopped

THE City Police have moved in to stop the construction of the Damara 7 club in Hans Uirab Street after receiving a petition from the residents.

Senior Superintendent Gerry Shikesho confirmed the development, saying they want to consult the stakeholders first.

“The construction has been put on hold. We are investigating the circumstances surrounding project after receiving a petition from the residents of Damara 7 location. We want to establish if the owners are building a club and why in a residential area. I believe the investigations will not take long,” Shikesho said.

Evangeline Geingos (72), whose house is next to the proposed club said her hopes in the justice system have been restored.

“I am happy that something is being done. Just the stopping of the construction means a lot. I have faith in our system. We are old. We want our children and grandchildren to grow up in an alcohol-free environment,” Geingos said.

Levine Geingos, a member of the committee opposed to the establishment of the club said a meeting they had with the Khomas regional liquor licensing committee last month was postponed to 3 September.

“We are really happy with the progress made and we will fight for this club not to opened,” Geingos said.
