Council to Present 201415 Capital Budget End of June

The City of Windhoek (CoW) will present its 201415 budget before the end of June.

Windhoek mayor Agnes Kafula said this during the monthly council meeting last week adding that as required by law, the council should prepare its budget after consultation with all relevant stakeholders, including the Khomas Regional Council.

“I am pleased to inform you that this consultative process started in March 2014 in earnest, and letters have already been sent out by the chief executive officer Niilo Taapopi to the Khomas Regional Council and other stakeholders, seeking input to the city’s capital budget for consideration before a final budget is approved by this August House,” she said.

Kafula said the consultative process also included public meetings which took place in March and the first week of April, when members of the public had an opportunity to share with councillors their developmental needs. She said the consultation process is still continuing.

“In order to make this consultation process effective, it is our expectation that apart from inputs obtained at public meetings, constituency councillors together with other constituency development committee (CDC) members meet to discuss development needs, and forward proposals to the chairperson of the Regional Council Zulu Shitongeni, who will in turn present a consolidated proposal to the City of Windhoek for consideration,” said Kafula.

She added that the city is committed to prioritise projects which are directly aimed at alleviating the plight of Windhoek residents.

“I therefore call upon this August House to lead by taking deliberate decisions in guiding and directing the development of this city,” she said. Kafula further noted the council expects genuine aice, cooperation and support from administrative personnel of the CoW.
