Councillor Urges Govt to Rehabilitate Reho Roads

THE councillor for Rehoboth rural constituency, Riaan McNab, has called on government to rehabilitate the road network in his constituency to boost economic activities in the area.

McNab made the call during the official opening of three bridges including Mansguber, Tsumis and Tributary to Rooidam river bridges on the Trunk Road 1 Section 4 between Mariental and Rehoboth on Monday.

The bridges were rehabilitated and expanded at the cost of approximately N$51 million.

Commending government for investing in road infrastructure, McNab said the lack of proper gravel roads is still a major challenge in the area.

“Except for this tarred road which is a national road running through my constituency, all other roads throughout the constituency are gravel roads which are in a bad state,” said McNab, adding that a good road infrastructure could lure investors to the area to explore economic opportunities, which could result in job creation.

McNab revealed that a request to rehabilitate roads in the constituency has been already submitted through the Hardap Regional Council to government after the local community expressed concern over the bad state of roads in the area.

McNab said the project resulted in the creation of 150 jobs and transfer of skills to locals.
