CoW announces that electricity tariff will increase by 9.2pc from 01 July 2014

WINDHOEK: The City of Windhoek (CoW) yesterday announced that the electricity tariff will increase by 9.2 per cent as from 01 July 2014.

This rate will be subject to the approval of the Electricity Control Board (ECB).

The chairperson of the CoW’s Management Committee, Moses Shiikwa said this when he tabled the City’s budget estimates for the 2014/15 financial year during the monthly City Council meeting yesterday.

He said the proposed tariff increases will affect the average low-income household by eight per cent, which is equivalent to N.dollars 47,99; while it will affect the average middle-income household by seven per cent (N.dollars 113,48).

The average high-income household’s monthly bill will increase by seven per cent, or N.dollars 241,93.

Shiikwa further indicated that there will be no increase in the basic water tariff; while the sewerage tariff will increase by 15 per cent, and the property tax tariff by eight per cent.
