Cricket coach not impressed by team’s performance in T20 cricket

WINDHOEK: Cricket Namibia’s head coach Doug Watson was disappointed with his team’s performance during the T20 friendly against Hong Kong here on Monday.

In a telephonic interview with Nampa shortly after their defeat, Watson said his players did not bowl as they should have.

He said the team has to tighten-up and put more pressure on their Asian opponents, adding that the Hong Kong players are fast.

“We are facing these guys (Hong Kong) again tomorrow before they go back home, and we are going back to the drawing board to put more pressure on them and rectify those problems,” he said.

Hong Kong managed to beat Namibia by 59 runs.

The host scored 129 in their 50 overs, with seven wickets down. Hong Kong scored 188 runs.

Meanwhile, Namibia also lost to Hong Kong by eight wickets during the International Cricket Cup (ICC) World Cricket League Championship series on Sunday.

Namibia lost with 109 runs when Hong Kong reached that target with the loss of two wickets with 13 overs remaining.

The two teams will meet again on Tuesday as part of their T20 Cricket Friendly.

The matches are used as preparation for Namibia’s T20 World Cup qualifiers to be played in July.
