ECN Conducts Training On EVMs

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) conducted voter education on the use of the electronic voting machines (EVMs) at various places in Windhoek over the weekend.

“So far more than ninety percent of the people we taught understand the machine,” said Kennedy Tjipurua, team leader of the group that conducted voter education at Tura medical centre just opposite the Katutura community hall on Saturday.

Tjipurua said many people who stopped by to listen were eager to learn how to use the Indian-made EVMs that will replace manual voting.

“The demand from the public to learn how to use the machine is very high. Even the old people are eager to use the machine,” stated Tjipurua.

After being shown how to use the EVM, an elderly man Victor Thomas told New Era that he “cannot wait to use the EVM in the upcoming election”.

“I think it is better to use the machine because some people cannot read. Now we will just look at the face of our preferred presidential candidate and press the button,” said Thomas.
