Eight people died in road accidents during just-ended weekend

WINDHOEK: Eight people died in road accidents during the just-ended Independence long weekend.

This is according to a media statement availed to Nampa by the Motor-Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund today.

This figure is 33 per cent higher than the six fatalities recorded over the same period last year.

Of the eight deceased persons, three were aged between 21 and 40, while another three were in the 46 to 70 age group.

Two of the accident victims’ ages are not known.

Although fatalities increased during this year’s Independence long-weekend when compared to last year, the MVA Fund also noted a significant reduction in road accidents and injuries over the past weekend, as opposed to the previous two years.

The number of road accidents decreased by 34 per cent, while injuries decreased by 56 per cent.
