Election officials say they have received important election material needed to conduct National Assembly and Presidential elections on Friday

OUTAPI: Election officials in the Omusati and Oshana said they have received all the important election material needed to conduct the National Assembly and Presidential elections successfully this Friday.

Speaking to Nampa yesterday, the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) Regional Coordinator for Omusati Leonard Ndazapo said all the necessary materials have arrived in the region on Saturday.

He said they have received Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for all the polling stations, and are still waiting to receive all the non-sensitive material such as tables, chairs, booths and generators.

Ndazapo said the Omusati Region is currently busy training all the polling officials, political party agents and law enforcement agencies on their responsibility during the upcoming elections.

The Omusati Region has over 1 500 polling officials and 235 polling stations, with a population of 135 693 registered voters of which 82 541 are women while 53 152 are men.

The region has 176 fixed polling stations and 59 mobile stations with 12 constituencies.

Oshana’s ECN Regional Co-ordinator Julius Shongolo told Nampa that more than 1 000 polling officials, political party agencies and members of law enforcement agencies are currently undergoing training on their responsibilities during the upcoming elections.
