Election results announcement postponed

WINDHOEK: The outcome of the 2014 Presidential and National Assembly elections will only be announced on Monday, the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) says.

The elections took place on Friday, and the results were expected to be announced 24 to 48 hours after polling stations closed.

Speaking at a media briefing, ECN Director Paul Isaak said the results of some of the 121 constituencies are still being audited.

He indicated that the results of only 30 constituencies had been audited, verified and confirmed by 18h00 on Sunday afternoon, and there were inconsistencies in figures provided by other constituencies.

Isaak said the Commission wants to ensure that all results from the voting process are credible.

He said the final results will be announced on Monday, without stating an exact time.
