Els Wins Golf Silver

With an exceptional performance over three days, Namibia’s Caro Els won the silver medal in the ladies golf competition at the African Youth Games in Gaborone.

The young golfer from Swakopmund finished the first day of the competition tied on second place with fellow Namibian, Jessica Dreesbeimdieke, with a score of 75 after 18 holes of golf, only two points adrift from leading Naomi Wafula from Kenya.

On day two Els presented an exceptional performance with 73 shots, going into the last day of competition in the leading position.

On day three, Nigerian Anita Uwadia suprised when scoring 73, with Els scoring 81. With this performance the Nigerian golfer pushed past Els by two points to claim the tournament win at a total score of 227.

Sixteen year old Els was very happy with the silver medal at a score of 229, with Kenyan Naomi Mafula settling for bronze at a score of 233.

Namibian Jessica Dreesbeimdieke ended the competition in a respectable fifth position with Kasoma Paulino settling for eleventh place in the men’s event which was won by South African Kyle Mc Clatchie. – olympic.org.na
