Experienced Squad to Face Congo

Brave Warriors coach Ricardo Mannetti on Wednesday named a 25-man squad to face Congo in the first leg of their Afcon qualifying match in Windhoek on Saturday, 17 May.

Mannetti has named an experienced squad which includes 10 foreign-based players and only two newcomers.

The newcomers to the squad are Civics midfielder Wangu Gomes and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Charles Uirab, who have both been in fine form in the Namibia Premier League.

African Stars defender Dennis Ngueza makes a return to the squad after a prolonged absence, as does Blue Waters midfielder Hendrik Somaeb, who is currently the leading goalscorer in the NPL.

Amongst the foreign-based players, Deon Hotto and Chris Katjiukua of Golden Arrows were not considered due to injury, but most of Namibia’s foreign legion has been called up.

Namibia’s foreign-based players are goalkeeper Virgil Vries of Maritzburg United defender Willem Mwedihanga of Amazulu midfielders Ronald Ketjijere (Pretoria University), Manfred Starke (Hansa Rostok), Petrus Shitembi (Amazulu), Heini Isaacs (Maritzburg United), Rudolf Bester (Golden Arrows) and Lazarus Kaimbi (Bangkok Glass) and strikers Jerome Louis (Township Rollers) and Tangeni Shipahu (Osotspa).

The local-based players have to report for training at NFA Soccer House at 08h00 on Thursday, 8 May, while the foreign-based professionals will join them on Sunday, 11 May.

The Namibian squad is as follows:

Goalkeepers:

Max Mbaeva, Virgil Vries, Edward Maova and Charles Uirab.

Defenders:

Willem Mwedihanga, Denis Ngueza, Da Costa Angula, Pekka Hamukwaya and Freedom Puriza.

Midfielders:

Ronald Ketjijere, Denzil Haoseb, Emilio Martin, Ananias Gebhardt, Neville Tjiueza, Willy Stephanus, Manfred Starke, Petrus Shitembi, Heini Isaacks, Wangu Gomes, Hendrik Somaeb, Rudolf Bester, Lazarus Kaimbi.

Strikers:

Panduleni Nekundi, Tangeni Shipahu and Jerome Louis.
