Festive season road safety campaign kicks off

WINDHOEK: The 2014/2015 festive season road safety campaign officially kicked off here in Windhoek on Saturday under the theme “Your Destination, a reward for safe Driving. Pledge to arrive alive”.

The campaign that was officially launched on the 7th of November 2014 by the MVA fund in collaboration with the National Safety Council and the Namibian police kicked of last Saturday the 22 of November 2014 and expected to run until the 15th of January 2015.

As part of the campaign, a number of road blocks will be set up in the country to ensure that motorist adhere to traffic rules and regulations of the road as well as an increase in highway patrols.

In a statement issued to the media on Friday by MVA Fund, it states that to ensure motorist don’t drive while fatigued, a number of resting spots will be erected and their expected to be manned by the MVA Fund emergency response units, law enforcement officers, volunteers and as well as employees of the fund and that of the National Road safety Council.

The MVA Fund and the National Road Safety Council hark back on road users that their safety is in their own hands and they should stay away from reckless behaviours such as drunk driving, speeding and driving when tired.

To ensure smooth travelling and safety, MVA ask road users to take their safety in their own hands in adhering to traffic regulations; not to take unnecessary risks; use seatbelts to minimise accident impacts and take safety breaks to avoid fatigue.
