Fifty street vendors each received N.dollars 2 000 from Otjiwarongo Constituency Trust Fund to boost businesses

OTJIWARONGO: Fifty street vendors yesterday each received N.dollars 2 000 from the Otjiwarongo Constituency Trust Fund to boost their businesses.

The money was handed over by Otjiwarongo Constituency Councillor Otto Ipinge, who is also the chairperson of the Otjiwarongo Constituency Trust Fund established in 2013 to assist the best-performing Grade 12 learners financially.

The fund is also aimed at assisting impoverished families here, as well as people who suffer losses of property through fire or theft in the Otjiwarongo Constituency only.

During the handing-over ceremony at the Swanevelder Community Hall, Ipinge said the Otjiwarongo Constituency Trust Fund’s board approved the applications for financial assistance of 50 street vendors in June this year.

A total of 290 street vendors applied for assistance from the Trust between April and May this year.

Ipinge explained that the 290 applicants all qualified for the donations. However, the Trust only approved the applications of 50 people for now.

The remaining applicants will receive their donations before the end of this year, he said.
