Final Long Course Gala of the Season

THE fifth Bank Windhoek Long Course Swimming Gala will take place this weekend at the Olympia municipal swimming pool, with the Friday gala starting at 15h00 and the Saturday gala at 8h30.

This will be the last long course gala of the year, before the start of the short course gala season starting at the end of May.

A total of 71 swimmers will take part on Friday and Saturday with 572 splashes ahead of them, while there will be 81 heats.

“We are looking forward to some great action from our senior swimmers as well as our juniors, some who have just returned from Johannesburg where they took part in the South African Level 2 championships”, said Angelika Diekmann, General Secretary of the Namibia Swimming Union (NASU).

Senior swimmers, Daniela Lindemeier, Nicolai Flemming, Lushano Lamprecht, Joumlrn Diekmann, Antonia Roth, Zanre Oberholzer and Sonja Adelaar, will use this as a preparation gala before their participation at the South African Senior National Championships, which takes place in Durban, South Africa from 7 April to 12 April 2014.

“Swimmers will have to brave the cold water and we wish them the best of luck in their efforts to always improve. We would also like to wish the NASU Level 1 team the best of luck on their tour to Germiston, South Africa, this weekend,” added Diekmann.

“Please come support and cheer our swimmers at the last Bank Windhoek Gala of the long course season. NASU would also like to thank Bank Windhoek for their continuous sponsorship during the long course swimming season. We would also like to thank the officials for their hard work, despite the hot or wet weather”, concluded Diekmann.
