First Defeat for Rehoboth

Rehoboth suffered their first defeat of the season when they went down 36-10 to Western Suburbs at Suburbs Park on Saturday.

The match was however much closer than the scoreline suggests, as Rehoboth failed to make use of their chances, while Suburbs got numerous tries through quick counterattacks.

Suburbs held a comfortable 17-3 lead at halftime, but Rehoboth immediately struck back with a try by left wing Reduaan Beukes to reduce the gap to 17-10 early in the second half.

Thats the closest they got though, as Suburbs ran in a total of five tries to end up comfortable winners.

For Suburbs, centre Deveroux Jansen scored two tries, and fullback Nathan van Wyk, eighthman Victor Rodriguez and replacement flyhalf Ricardo Swartz scored one each.

Centre Shaun Kaizemi added four conversions while centre Ascher Coetzee added a drop goal.

Besides Beukes’ try, Rehoboth fullback Howard Titus added a conversion and a penalty.

The victory sees Suburbs remaining at the top of Pool B with 22 points from five matches, while Rehoboth are second on 17 points.

Unam, who beat Polytech 26-0 are third on 16 points, Reho Falcon, who were not in action are fourth on 8 points, and Polytech still have to open their account at the bottom of the log.

In Walvis Bay, United beat Walvis Bay 49-17 to remain unbeaten at the top of Pool B.

It was United’s fifth victory in a row, while they ran in a total of seven tries to collect two bonus points and now top Pool B with 26 points.

Wanderers also chalked up a big score, beating Kudus 50-6 in Windhoek, to remain second on the log on 24 points.
