First Top Taxi Driver Winner Announced

Taxi drivers all over Windhoek have come out in numbers to enter the Top Taxi competition that is currently running in the capital.

Commuters had to SMS their votes for the taxi driver that give them the best service and whom they felt drove safely. These SMS tallies were counted up and the first Top Taxi winner is Martin Nakathila.

An elated Nakathila thanked the organisers for running the competition and says that it will help make the streets of Windhoek safer for all road users. As part of his winnings, Standard Bank Namibia sponsored a cash prize of N$3 000 which was deposited into his personal bank account.

In the photo, Standard Bank’s Public Relations and Communications Manager Surihe Gaomas-Guchu congratulates Nakathila. “Standard Bank Namibia is proud to be associated with the Top Taxi project as a worthy cause in instilling road safety awareness amongst taxi drivers in order to reduce road accidents and ultimately save lives. Taxi drivers have an important role to play in our community and that is why as a bank we saw the need to get involved,” said Gaomas-Guchu.

For the entire nine month period in which the project will operate, Standard Bank Namibia will sponser a total of over N$133 000. Other partners also involved in this project are Namibia Medical Care, Shoprite, Windhoek City Police and The Namibian newspaper.

If you think you are or have been transported by Windhoek’s Top Taxi, make sure to enter the competition as both you and the driver can win some awesome prizes.
