FNB Classic Clashes off to interesting start

WINDHOEK; Augustineum Secondary School and Gobabis Gymnasium won the first 2014 First National Bank (FNB) Classic Clashes hosted in Windhoek last week.

The FNB Classic Clashes were first introduced in 2008 and have since become one of the most sought-after sporting events amongst high school learners as they face each other in the sport codes of football, rugby and netball. A media statement availed to Nampa on Tuesday by the tournament’s main sponsor First National Bank of Namibia (FNB) said on 21 and 23 May the first FNB Classic Clashes Games of the 2014 season were played.

Augustineum Secondary School and Academia Secondary School clashed on the Augustineum netball court on 21 May, while Gobabis Gymnasium and Wennie du Plessis played their game at the same venue on 23 May. Augustineum beat Academia 25-17 and Gobabis Gymnasium beat Wennie du Plessis 30-9.

In the same statement, FNB’s Manager of Sponsorships and Donations Ingrid Goeieman said Augustineum managed to use their home advantage and utilised most of their shooting opportunities, while Academia put up a spirited performance.

In the Gobabis Gymnasium versus Wennie du Plessis game, Gymnasium held total dominance in the exciting match hence the huge goal tally.

Jan Möhr High School and Delta Secondary School will play the first football match of the 2014 FNB Classic Clashes season on Friday.
