FNB Schools MB League Concludes

This coming weekend, on Saturday, 2 August, cycling enthusiasts will see the FNB School Mountain Bike League draw to a close with the last event taking place in Windhoek.

Dixon Norval, Head of Strategic Marketing and Communications at FNB Namibia said that the Schools Mountain Bike League had been taking place for the last three years and has grown in popularity.

“We value the importance of sport and we love our youngsters – that is why the combination of sport and youth is one FNB supports wholeheartedly. We also see this as a first-class platform which creates awareness around the importance of a healthy lifestyle for the youth of Namibia, more so if it takes place in the outdoors.”

Aiden de Lange, organiser of the event, said that as the new series title sponsor, FNB Namibia had embraced this initiative with the required financial and branding contributions in order to secure the future of the sport series.

“Adding momentum to the FNB School Mountain Bike League, Pantum Copiers in conjunction with Walton’s Namibia, proudly co-sponsor this series financially. Along with FNB, Pantum Copiers have committed financial assistance to ensure that a squad of top high-school mountain bikers are selected to attend the Spur School Finals in Magaliesberg, South Africa in October 2014,” he said.

De Lange said historically Namibia performed well at the SA finals and regularly won medals across the school age categories.

In line with the rapid growth of the sport of mountain-biking the FNB Namibia Schools Mountain Bike League has drawn additional participation from coastal riders at each of the events hosted in Walvis Bay and Swakopmund. Coastal riders will also be included in the selection to compete in South Africa and De Lange said that Saturday’s event would serve as a final qualifier.

“The upcoming Namibian finals scheduled for 2 August promises a great turnout with the student riders using this final event as their last chance to increase their schools and personal qualifications.”

FNB meanwhile announced that it had already committed for the upcoming 201415 Schools Mountain Bike League.
